• The writings of modern scholars — authoritative citation is limited to scripture and the ancient masters (the fifth section of the Conventions). Conclusions reached in private consultation do not appear in what the reader is given.
• Modern critical editions of the Sanskrit — Sanskrit is taken only as the ancient masters transmitted it (the same section).
• Composite conflations of the recensions — these are not translations.
