Research & AI-collaboration disclosure
Waken is authored by Shi Huijing (釋慧鏡). It relies on two infrastructures: a classical one (CBETA scripture databases, inter-canonical cross-reference, printed commentary tradition) and a contemporary one (version control, retrieval-augmented search, AI-assisted document hygiene). This page discloses both.
The role of AI across this site
Every translation and exposition here has one author and one arbiter: Shi Huijing. AI serves as a collaborative instrument; it is never credited as author and never ratifies its own work.
Division by layer: first drafts of the plain-language and apparatus layers are produced by AI and ruled on by the translator after clause-by-clause reading against the base text; the exposition and essential-points layers are the translator's own — AI may lay down a base draft, and nothing is a draft until it has passed clause by clause through the translator's hand; external review is delivered by a separate model as findings, never as a pass/fail verdict — the verdict is the translator's. All AI-drafted text is grounded in the Taishō source, never in recall.
Each volume's translator page points to this section; model names and generations are disclosed only here: currently Claude (Fable generation, chat and code seats), Claude Opus and Sonnet (drafting agents), Claude Sonnet (5.5 generation, software implementation seat: site engineering only, never the texts), and GPT (Astra generation, external audit). When generations change, only this section is updated; the volumes are not revised.
AI Collaboration Disclosure
All writings on Waken are authored by Shi Huijing; every translation is hers. Claude — Anthropic's AI — serves as a research and engineering collaboration tool: not a co-author, not a ghostwriter, not a source of ideas. Each work is signed by depth of collaboration; the three signatures are fixed wordings:
- Author · Shi Huijing — with AI-assisted structural drafting— papers, school-doctrine essays, reading guides, and original Chinese school books
- Translator · Shi Huijing. The full statement of AI's role across the 指月 project is maintained at methodology.— all canonical editions (five layers) and anthology compilations
- Translator · Shi Huijing — first-pass rendering with Code Sonnet, term-by-term review— English editions of book-length works
Division of labor: Chat carries architecture, work orders, vision, and specs; Code carries execution, build, and deploy; Sonnet carries mechanical dispatch — batch rendering under a locked spec. The current generations are named in “The role of AI across this site” above; only that section is updated as generations change.
The Claude models are accessed via Anthropic's claude.ai and Claude Code interfaces; external review uses the GPT line. No fine-tuning, and no agent loops beyond visible-to-translator sessions.
The standard is fidelity, not abstention: transmit, do not compose — every word has a source. Claude extracts and renders from canonical sources; it drafts, renders, and proposes, never working from memory, never inventing, never ratifying on its own. Every doctrinal, terminological, or textual-variant decision is presented with sources for Shi Huijing's ruling — she is the arbiter of all doctrine.
No doctrinal authorship — all Buddhist teaching, interpretation, and argumentation originates from the author.
An AI assistant account may appear in some repositories' GitHub contributor list. This reflects technical contribution (infrastructure, formatting), not authorship of ideas. Readers are invited to scrutinize this line at any time by examining commit diffs directly.
