Reading paths

Waken is a matrix, but you do not have to read it as one. Pick the entry that fits where you stand today. You can cross to another path whenever a question invites it.

  1. For the scholar

If you already read Buddhist scripture and commentaries, enter at the dharma-research corpus. Pick a Series that maps to your current question.

  2. For the new student

A guided entry: begin with the first chapter of The Octalogy of Pointing at the Moon — From Initial Aspiration to the Ocean-Seal Samādhi, then read the general preface, then sample one Nian paper for rhythm.

  3. For the practitioner

If you already practise, the Six Practice Gates give the map — where your practice sits in the larger curriculum. Understanding and practice loop; expect your reading to change as you walk.

  4. Start with NIAN

Mindful of the Buddha — buddha-recollection across the canon. Volume One of the Six Practice Gates traces buddhānusmṛti from the Pāli Six Recollections through the Three Pure Land Sūtras to Samantabhadra's Ten Great Vows. The shortest path into the Practice axis.
