I. Base Text of This Edition
- Sūtra of One Hundred Parables in four fascicles · composed by the Venerable Sengqiesina · translated by Qiunapidi, Tripiṭaka master from India, under the Southern Qi · T04n0209. Fascicle 1 runs from the fascicle title at
0543a04to the end of the preface at0546b11: twenty-one parables, four thousand two hundred and ninety-four characters.
The extent and character count of each unit are given in the Indices.
II. Recensions Collated
Cited in the Taishō collation notes: the Song, Yuan, and Ming editions, the Koryŏ canon, and the Manji canon; for Fascicle 1 there is also the preface of three hundred and seventy-four characters that the Song, Yuan, and Ming editions place at the head of the fascicle, and the notes on their not dividing the fascicles. This edition uses them only as witnesses for collation, recorded without adjudication.
III. Old Mirrors Carried Forward
This work has no running old commentary and no alternate translation; this column records none, as is the case.
IV. Manner of Citation
Quotations from the source text are given within quotation marks with a locus, as in T04 0543a16; the locus is the line boundary of the canon on which the first quoted character stands.
V. Scope of Use
This edition does not adopt modern critical editions, does not make a concordance with the Pali Jātakas, and does not cite modern scholars.
