The Song Lives of Eminent Monks places his biography among the translators, under the heading "Jiliang of Zhizhi Monastery in Guangzhou, of the Tang" 〔T50n2061 0718c03〕. It opens with his name and country: "Shi Jiliang, a man of Central India; his Sanskrit name was Pramiti, which means 'Utmost Measure'" 〔T50n2061 0718c04〕. It records a single deed: "In the first year of Shenlong, the year yisi, on the twenty-third day of the fifth month, he recited from the Consecration Section one chapter, called the Great Buddha-Crown Sūtra of the Tathāgata's Secret Cause, Cultivation and Realization of the Complete Meaning, and the Myriad Practices of All Bodhisattvas, Called Śūraṅgama*, and it was translated as one work in ten fascicles" 〔T50n2061 0718c08–c11〕. Three others stand beside him in the translation hall: "the śramaṇa Meghaśikha of Uḍḍiyāna" 〔T50n2061 0718c11〕 as interpreter, "Fang Rong of Qinghe" 〔T50n2061 0718c13〕 who took it down in writing, and "the śramaṇa Huaidi of Nanlou Monastery" 〔T50n2061 0718c13–c14〕 who certified the translation. The attribution at the head of fascicle one of this sūtra answers to this 〔T19n0945 0106b06–b11〕.*

The biography closes with his departure and the sūtra's remaining: "When Liang had finished the work of translation, it happened that the king of his own country was angered that he had taken the scripture out without leave and sent men to recall him; he set sail and returned west. Later, through an envoy from the south entering the capital, the sūtra came into circulation" 〔T50n2061 0718c14–c16〕. The Zhenyuan Catalogue tells the same 〔T55n2157 0874a16–a27〕. The translator went west and the text went north: the beginning of this sūtra in China is one man leaving and one book staying.
