靈椉

靈椉是本籍中唯一一位清代古德。其書二部皆註《地藏本願經》：《科註》〔X21n0384〕與《綸貫》〔X21n0383〕。《科註》卷端署「古鹽匡菴青蓮苾芻靈椉父輯」〔X21n0384 0653a05〕；《綸貫》卷端無題署，而撰畢自署「嗣興天台教觀正宗第五世青蓮苾芻靈椉撰」〔X21n0383 0639a22〕。

Lingcheng is the one figure of the Qing in this registry. Both his books annotate the Sūtra of the Original Vows of Kṣitigarbha: the Sectional Commentary 〔X21n0384〕 and the Connecting Thread 〔X21n0383〕. The former is headed "compiled by the Green Lotus bhikṣu Lingcheng of the Kuang hermitage at Guyan" 〔X21n0384 0653a05〕; the latter carries no heading, but is signed at its completion "by the Green Lotus bhikṣu Lingcheng, fifth generation in the succession of the orthodox lineage of the Tiantai teaching and contemplation" 〔X21n0383 0639a22〕.

那句自署只舉世次，不舉受業之師名——他自繫於天台教觀正宗第五世，而第四世是誰，他沒有寫。本檔照錄不代補：法系可繫而師名不可繫，二者不相代。

That byline gives the generation and not the name of the master he studied under — he places himself as the fifth in the orthodox Tiantai succession and does not say who the fourth was. This file records it as it stands and supplies no more: a lineage can be entered and a teacher's name cannot, and the one does not stand in for the other.

其書之年有自記一條：《綸貫》撰畢自書「皇清康熙二十二年太歲在昭陽大淵獻……建大寒有疾頭陀靈椉書於武原匡菴之優鉢羅室」〔X21n0383 0652b02〕——康熙二十二年＝1683，昭陽大淵獻＝癸亥，干支自洽。而其生卒仍不繫。本編依凡例「非唐宋古德層者，時代據實標明」，era 欄逕書「清」，不與唐宋古德層混稱；生卒如實標不詳，不代為補。

One line dates the work: at the end of the Connecting Thread he wrote, "in the twenty-second year of Kangxi of the imperial Qing, the year standing at zhaoyang dayuanxian … at Great Cold, the ailing ascetic Lingcheng wrote this in the Utpala chamber of the Kuang hermitage at Wuyuan" 〔X21n0383 0652b02〕 — Kangxi 22 is 1683, and the cyclical designation agrees with it. His own dates it still does not give. Following the convention that a figure outside the Tang and Song stratum has his period stated plainly, this edition enters his era simply as "Qing," not merged with the ancient masters, and marks his dates honestly as unknown rather than supplying them.
