The canon has no biography of him. His name survives only in the attribution of the translation hall: at the head of fascicle one of this sūtra, "the śramaṇa Meghaśikha of Uḍḍiyāna, interpreter" 〔T19n0945 0106b11〕, and likewise at fascicle ten 〔T19n0945 0151b28〕. The Song Lives of Eminent Monks lists him within the biography of Jiliang and glosses his name: "the śramaṇa Meghaśikha of Uḍḍiyāna [the 'śikha' is slightly corrupt; properly it is 'śākha', which here means 'Cloud Peak'], interpreter" 〔T50n2061 0718c11〕; the Zhenyuan Catalogue writes "Yingaśikha," with the same gloss 〔T55n2157 0874a23〕. The interpreter is the one who stands between Sanskrit and Chinese and carries the sound across; a sūtra came into being with this one man in the room, and the canon records him in a single line. This entry keeps every variant of his name as written and normalizes none.
